pfSense 10gbe vs core2quad
-
Hi,
My CCR 1036 just died, and today I have a huge doubt, pay $ 1k on a new CCR or buy an SPF + card on aliexpress for $ 30 ( HP Duble SFP+ X8) and use an old core2quad q6600 with 8gb and ram 128GB ssd and as a router.However I am in doubt if core2quad is capable of supporting 10gbe?
I currently have 3 internet links balance 1GB + 1GB and 600mb(failover),I used the ccr for balance and PPOE for a building near with 50 customers.
Can core2quad handle this balance?
My traffic is around 600~800mb with 1.3gb spikes$ 30 == $ 1k: C

Hello,
the quality of the products on Aliexpress is good?
because I would like to order SFP cables and network cards as well but I am afraid of the quality because I would like to provide a good service. -
For the price, worth. All cables are uses.
To find a new now is luck. -
The Q6600 will not pass 10Gbps in any test.
I have tested one at 2.6Gbps in a simple iperf test. I would expect it to be OK at 1.3Gbps of regular traffic. Though the PPPoE means it restricted to a single receive queue for each of those connections. If you have em NICs those are single queue anyway.
