Found a couple flash Memory modules on some thin clients and was wondering if these can be reused to install PFsense or other OS on. These plug directly in the IDE connector on the motherboard. Any special tools required? TIA

What client? I've seen these on Wyse V10-L, but the largest seen is only 256MB. If you want to try and find a larger flash, you'd want at least 4GB. Maybe you can find an old non-SATA 2.5" laptop drive and the appropriate cable and Velcro it in the case. Also, it would need to be a 64-bit system to use pfSense. Just playing around, I've booted Puppy Linux from a USB flash drive, but you'd need something more durable for pfSense.

          Hi,
Thanks for the response. I don't necessarily need to put PfSense on it. This is more a general question, that is, if it can be reused. These are 1Gb. They had Win XP embedded on them.

Maybe. What are they? What processor and memory?
Perhaps you could use a USB drive with an ISO image if you can get it to boot from USB before disk. CAn you get into BIOS?

This is from an Argus thin client. Has a 1Ghz processor with 1 Gb ram. Maybe I should not be asking here, but was thinking of putting another OS on it. Was just curious to know if anyone had a way to reuse the flash memory module.

I can get into BIOS. Will try to install something on the flash memory module to see if it will take it.
