Can't reach Internet via LAN port of sg1100

Hello, noob to pfsense and having more trouble than I expected. Some context, I have been using commercial grade equipment for as long as I can remember and am finally trying to up my knowledge about networking.

I have recently aquired some equipment:
1x Motorola MB7621 cable modem
1x netgate sg1100
1x unifi 8 port switch
1x nano hd

After watching a bunch of initial configuration videos, I thought it would be easy plug and play to at least get out to the internet, but I may have been out of my depth a bit.

Set up for now is:
Mb7621 <- sg 1100 connected to modem by wan <-client plugged into lan of sg 1100

*On dashboard, wan showing public ip address 172.x.x.x
*Lan ip 10.x.x.x
*All default rules
*Set DNS servers 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 with wan DHCP as gateway
*Have factory reset both modem & firewall with no luck
***wan says up but wan DHCP at gateway diagnostics says offline
