Can i Install new OS version along with large disk space, using existing config file ?

We run Pfsense on vmware,
now we would like to upgrade our version as well as disk space.
Can I install new version on new VM and restore my old config file ?
If so can someone please provide me steps ?
is there will be any issue ?Please advise,
