pfSense connecting to wifi acting as a repeater.

  • So this may be an unusual use case but I want to use a pfSense box or another device to connect to a public Wi-Fi one with a login page then I want my pfsense box to run all the usual router stuff and connect my devices to it. So in essence I want,

public wifi (with login page) -> pfSense router -> My Devices

Is there any easy and feasible way of achieving this.

No, there's no easy way to do it because pfSense cannot login to a captive portal itself. Whichever clinet is connected to it behind that be redirected to the login and have to enter the credentials. But before that the gateway will appear down, it won't be able to check for updates etc.
Most wifi setup like that does not want you connecting a router to it and some will even take steps to prevent it.
If you have control over the wifi you should whitelist the pfSense WAN MAC so it bypasses the captive portal. If you don't have control of it then you probably shouldn't be doing this. 😉

  • @stephenw10 Well it's a paid wifi with unlimited devices so Im not doing this to bypass anything I just would rather not do the captive portal every time and have it permanently connected with better signal. Buy yes I don't think I can get my mac whitelisted so you think theres no other way to do it.

Indeed I can't imagine a way to do it in pfSense unless they have some method of connecting devices that cannot easily enter a password. Like WPS maybe. It's unlilkely.
