Couple of questions about floating rules for traffic shaping
I searched for this information but it seems things changed from version to version and most of the tutorials very old. So, I would be glad to get clarification.
- Traffic shaper wizard creates qDefault for WAN but qLink for LAN while all other queues have the same name. Why?
- Floating firewall rules for queues created by wizard have "any" in the direction field. So how traffic directed to the appropriate queue. I mean outgoing traffic should be directed to the queue under the WAN interface and incoming to the queue under the LAN interface right? Because they have the same name I would guess the correct one selected somehow automatically? In old tutorials, I see different queue names for WAN and LAN.
- Is it possible to create queues with different names for LAN and WAN interfaces and create rules that will explicitly direct inbound traffic to LAN queues and outbound to WAN queues? In this case, is it correct that if the main queue on WAN, the corresponding ACK queue should be on LAN and vice versa?
- I already have queues created by wizard. Can I change the queue type for the interface, let say from PRIQ to CBQ or I need to delete old queues and create new?
Sorry, but are my questions too stupid or too complicated?
The floating rule should match regardless of interface (think of a router with 5 interfaces trying to duplicate all the shaping rules). There's not a need to tie them to interfaces.
The wizard sets up a default setup. I think I would delete and run the wizard if changing types.
The queues affect outbound traffic for the interface so downloading from the Internet would be LAN outbound and ack would be WAN outbound. The rules get set up differently, for instance I think VOIP UDP traffic doesn't have an interface but has a rule for Source and another for Destination. But POP/SMTP etc. TCP gets set on WAN according to destination port by default.
