Gigabit speed help

Hi everyone,
today i upgraded my cable service to gigabit and trying to actually reach those speeds behind a pfsense box (self made). Currently seing about 540-550Mbit when doing speedtest from Windows 10 when going through the pfsense box. I did the same test plugged directly into the modem and was hitting about 950-960Mbit which is what i expected.
in pfsense, i run speedtest at the cli and reports back anywhere between 500 and 850 Mbit.
Box itself was built on the follows:
-AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
-4gb ram
-on board nic + tp-link PCI nic (both gigabit of course)when i run the dslreports speedtest, i do see the CPU usage spike up to about 70-80%, which i suspect is normal, but thought i should mention it just in case. i have also tried the test with and without pfblockng running just in case, same results.
Any info would be appreciated!
