suricata observation with hyperthreading enabled/disabled.
-
I dunno if any of you have experienced this, i've read several opinions, i just figured i'd throw in my observation.
My internet connection is a basic comcast/xfinity 100/5 cable connection. it's always been stable/reliable however i was never able to get more than 85mb down with my pfsense firewall. I tested it by plugging in my laptop directly and was able to get 115mb down.
I have set up a VERY over-powered pfsense box out of an old pc. it's a dell 990 with 16gigs of ram and an intel i7.
i read up/learned a little about suricata vs snort and decided to make the switch. Snort always seemed to run fine.
Upon installing suricata and getting basic settings configured, it refused to launch.I did a little research online and found that some people had issues with getting suricata to work or had low throughput, etc..
I disabled hyper-threading in the Bios and on the very next boot, suricata began working as it should PLUS my throughput increased to 115mb down.
for those of you who are experiencing these things, give it a shot and see if that helps.
