We monitor the firewall with PFSense on Zabbix and created a PFSense 2 to do CARP. But the WAN is not yet active, as we are still planning when and how we are going to do this critical operation. We need the operator to reserve an IP for us also for the PFSense2 WAN.

Today we received an alert on Zabbix that the number of processes on PFSense2 has increased from 140 to over 300 in the last 20 days. The team found that many processes are zombies. Could it be that this increase was due to the WAN being inactive?

PFSense2 has the settings restored from PFSense1. Only the IP's of the LAN's that we have already changed.

        What are the processes?

Run ps -auxwwd at the CLI.

Could be anything if the complete config was restored onto it from the Primary.
Without a WAN connection it will not have been able to pull any packages though.
