      Hi all,

Looking for some advice, I am new to pfsense and am generally fumbling my way around it. Brief overview of my setup.
Cable hub set to modem => phsense SG-1100 => 24 port switch => 3 wired unifi access points, various other machines and quite a lot of IoT stuff. 3 machines used for work are all hard wired, whenever I am setting up something new its generally hardwired if possible.

pfsense setup: using the dns resolver to give me internal dns resolution, HAProxy and I have a few ip addresses going through a vpn.

I have been having 2 main issues that I am trying to get to the bottom of:

DHCP: I have a few machines that just will not pickup a DHCP lease, I have 96 leases in use so I am way under the 255 allowed in the private ip range. Has happened on ubuntu, windows 10 and raspberry pi all separate machines. Also possibly related I have a couple of nvidia shields that occasionally report having no ethernet - a reboot and they are fine.

General internet connectivity: I have a cable connection at 362Mbps down and 36Mbps up
I don't feel its very speedy at loading web pages, great whenever I do a speed test, but that's not the main issue. Every so often it is just rubbish, if say on a zoom call it will get laggy and freeze up for a few mins. I strongly suspect this is Virgin Media's problem but being so new to pfsense I would like to convince myself its not my shoddy config and get some proof before I tackle their dreadful customer service.

So after reading this marathon post if you are still here what I am looking for is some advice on how to begin debugging my issues. What logs to examine or post etc.

Thanks so much for taking the time

      Squigs

Well I would start with say your windows 10 machine not getting an IP via dhcp.

Do you see discover in your dhcp log? Can never get an IP if dhcpd running on pfsense never sees the discover asking for a lease..

If you never see discover - then you have a connectivity issue..

Are you using any vlans? Is this windows 10 wireless when it has problems or wired?

@johnpoz Thanks for the reply... I will start there. Every machine that has had a problem has been wired. Will post here when I have some news on it

          Thanks again
