PFSense WAN Can't Get An IP!!! (0.0.0.0)
-
Hey, I have a problem I can't figure out and I have exhausted my search options...
I've already checked out Netgate forum posts about this issue!
My WAN is coming up with 0.0.0.0 no matter what I do.
At first I had PFSense working successfully.
Then I tried to do some network configuration with 2 other devices, the ISP modem in bridge mode and a Netgear to handle our wireless and routing.
At some point the PFSense stopped getting a WAN IP.
So I hard reset the PFSense, then went over to the ISP Modem hard reset it, and entered the PFSense MAC as a reserved IP out side the DHCP scope... Modem picks it up as offline for no reason...
I went over to the PFSense and set the IP manually, only then it shows other than 0.0.0.0 however back at the modem it is still offline?!?!?! -
What I would do, just to make sure you can get an IP address and get the pfsense box (and everything connected to it) online, would to be to put the ISP modem back into modem/router mode.
After that, plug the pfsense WAN into an ISP modem/router LAN port, then check if the pfsense WAN gets an address. It should be a private address - like 192.168.X.X, something like that.
When I put my Comcast business modem into bridge mode, it would refuse to give pfsense an IP address, like you're talking about. Then I had to call them and they talked me thru the basic settings, then it worked just fine. They also called it hybrid bridge mode, or something like that. Isn't a true bridge mode. It was weird.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion!
After calling the ISP to double check if they had shadowbanned the MAC, and they reset the modem for me, the problem remained the same.My Work around was to swap the interfaces for WAN & LAN!
Suddenly my WAN can pull an IP!
And... I immediately noticed that PFSense was also assigned an IPv6 IP
I had tried to disable IPv6 from the Spectrum DHCP!
Spectrum Techni was happy with all the other devices MAC but not my PFSense MAC!!! The Spectrum Techni would not show me anything, except put the MAC in the inactive list! (This occurred while attempting to place the Spectrum Techni into Bridge mode - but I had to reverse on that problem!!! So ISP - Bridge - IPv6 block - Hated my WAN MAC and wouldn't let it go - Customer Service could not see anything blocked!!!
