      I just received a new SG-2100 to replace an old 2220. At first, I uploaded the config to the new device, but couldn't install any packages. I can browse the list of available packages, but after confirming to install one it stays on;

      Please wait while the update system initializes

      But never moves beyond that. I thought it could be a borked config so I factory reset it. Went immediately to install packages and still same issue.

      I can browse the internet. It's passing traffic. System Log doesn't indicate any errors with Package Manager.

      Running 2.4.5-RELEASE-p1

        You are not running the most current version of pfSense software, and that is probably why package installation is not working. You have two choices. If you want to stay on the 2.4.5_p1 release, then to install packages you need to point your box to the 2.4.5_p1 packages repo. Here's how --

        Go to SYSTEM > UPGRADE and then the Upgrade Settings tab. Change the drop-down selection there to read "Previous stable branch (2.4.5 deprecated)" and save the change. That should allow package installs to work.

        Alternatively, you might consider updating your firewall to the latest 21.02_1 version that should be showing as available on your Dashboard screen. Updating your firewall to the latest pfSense version should also fix your packages problem.

          Well that kind of worked. I got packages installed but then nothing would run. Most everything in Services was stopped and would not start, including Unbound. I reset back to factory and now the Circle and Square lights are blinking fast. Console has been sitting at;

          Bootup complete
          /etc/pfSense-rc: cannot create /dev/null: Operation not supported
          /etc/pfSense-rc: /usr/local/sbin/-led.sh: not found
          /etc/pfSense-rc: /bin/rm: not found
          random: unblocking device.

          for about 10 minutes.

              Yeah, that looks like corrupt firmware image. You can open a support ticket with Netgate here: https://go.netgate.com/support/login. There is no charge for getting a fresh install image.
