I will be getting Comcast gigabit pro soon, which is a 2gig fiber and a 1 gig ethernet connection. I wanted to just buy a netgate appliance but they are kind of spendy. I used to run pfsense on an r710 but it was a power hog. I was thinking I could get an r220 or r230 to run it. I want to to be reasonable on power consumption, but I've read that comcast is will eventually up their speeds on the fiber so I want it to be able to handle 10 gig one day. I run my unraid/plex server that is constantly downloading at full bore, we have roommates and everyone is constantly gaming or streaming and plex is streaming to remote locations. All my stuff will be on the 2 gig and everyone else will be on the 1 gig. I also want to run every security plug in thats available on pfsense so it will need the power to accommodate that.

Is r220 or r230 powerful enough and what specs should I shoot for to be able to handle it?

      Thanks
