      I have an SG-1100:
      21.02-RELEASE (arm64)
      FreeBSD 12.2-STABLE

It randomly reboots maybe once per week or so. Is there something I can monitor in the logs to look for? Is this something that I can contact support about without a charge?

FWIW, it did this same thing prior to upgrading to 21.01-RELEASE.

      Thanks.

Exactly what logging info you have in this case would be dependent on the type of crash and reboot. Is the box rebooting all by itself, or is it crashing, stalling, and you have to boot it manually from the console?

If the latter, before rebooting make sure you have the USB serial console cable attached and check the local console for any messages. You would also want to examine the pfSense system log to see if any activity logged there matches up with the crash time.

Is your firewall just "plain vanilla" in its configuration, or do you have a number of installed packages? The more packages and things you add, the greater the universe of suspects when trying to track down the cause of a crash. Might be useful to remove all the packages and see if the box is stable running just pfSense+ only with no additional packages. Then, if stable, slowly add back one package at the time, with a wait in between additions, to see if you can pinpoint a specific package as the cause of crashes.

@bmeeks It's pretty vanilla. I think all I have on it is chron and the AWS-wizard. From what I've been reading, these random reboots that don't generate any logs are probably hardware-related. The problem is, what hardware is failing. Is it the power supply? The system board? Etc.

@jpozzoli Not to minimize the issue here but I also have an SG-1100 and do not see these issues. I have never seen a random reboot as long as I have had the device. I agree in that i would check the system logs and maybe check CPU/RAM, are they getting maxed out by something?

You likely have a unit impacted by the known power supply issue. There is a post about that in the Netgate Announcements sub-forum here. You can contact Netgate about a possible replacement. I don't know if they are still replacing units, but they might be. The post I'm talking about was created back on 2019 and is here: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/144636/sg-1100-intermittent-reboots/.

@bmeeks Thanks. I sent a support request (even though I don't pay for support). I hope they don't just toss my request into the trash.

The paid support is mainly for configuration assistance as I understand it. You can always get support for hardware problems. Of course there will be some time limit on warranty replacement depending on the specific circumstance.

@bmeeks They want me to collect the logs during a power failure/reboot. The problem is this is a random occurrence. I don't have a problem plugging the "serial" cable into something and letting it collect, but I don't know what should do the collection. If I did putty, I don't think the connection would survive the power loss on the SG-1100.

Any suggestions? (I've also asked support the same thing, but would like to get non-Netgate options as well).

Or get a sys logger and run it on a 'all ways on' PC - have pfSense send over the log to this 'syslog' server.

The 192.168.1.4 on my LAN is such a syslog server :

The log on putty will capture everything. The terminal session does not close out if/when the device restarts.
