Amazon Firestick 4k broken post pfSense 2.5 upgrade with NordVPN
-
Hi, fellow Netgate citizens!
My Amazon firestick 4k no longer works consistently after upgrading to pfSense 2.5.
I'm using NordVPN. The firestick is unstable and several times during the day it will not connect to the Amazon server for updates and streaming. And when it does connect, the connection doesn't last long.
When the Amazon server drops the connection, I get error messages like, "home, live, free, movies, and other options are currently unavailable, please try later." Many fruitless factory reset of the firestick. Amazon online help is useless.
Amazon is sending me a replacement after I was told that the device could be defective. This narrative is false because it works when pfSense/NordVPN not part of the equation. My current network is working fine and able to surf the net without issues. I have no issues with my WiFi. I have been using my firestick with pfSense 2.4.5 /NordVPN since last fall without issues. It just started happening after the upgrade. The so called defective Amazon firestick works flawlessly when I temporarily change my network to an ordinary router/modem combo without pfSense and NordVPN. I'm thinking that Amazon has recently upgraded its network to block VPN's or pfSense is not properly configured with NordVPN? Has anyone experienced this problem? If this is a known issue, is there a fix or workaround? Your help would be greatly appreciated because I'm currently at my wit's end.

@Ghost-0 , well it could be anything like Amazon, VPN, config, ISP or the stick probs. Try to see if your ISP did contribute to this probs. Check your ip dns leaks:

workaround?
use the amazon over the wan and not NordVpN

Did you read my post? Your suggestion is not a solution because I already know that it works w/o NordVPN. I want it to work with my VPN so that I can sideload it with third party apps to stream free stuff. You can't do that safely without a VPN because my ISP would send me those stupid DMCA letters. I just wish users would refrain from giving obvious advise that doesn't resolve anything.
I found a workaround after experimenting with my network.

Update:
My Amazon Firestick 4k is working again with pfSense2.5 /NordVPN.I didn't make any significant changes... out of the blue, it's back from the abyss. Last week, I couldn't consistently connect to Amazon's server(s). I think Amazon must have fixed it on their end. This is still a head scratcher for me because I don't have any answers why it wasn't working properly for a week.
Anyway, I'm happy it's back to normal and got an extra firestick (refurbished) from Amazon for my ordeal.

@ghost-0 , I think Nordvpn fixed it because of regional restriction. Anyway I'm happy for you. Cheers mate.

NordVPN fixed it? Oh, I thought it was Amazon that updated its server after, perhaps, receiving many complaints from fellow users like me. I'm not sold on your reason that NordVPN fixed it due to "regional restriction" because I'm in the good ol' USA. I'm not trying to access Amazon from abroad. Anyway, thanks for the reply, mate!
Australia seems to have some fine ladies...I met so many fine ladies from Australia in college.
