Some IPv6 questions (setup)
-
Since 4 days i have Dual-Stack and did set it up like in this tutorial:
Vodafone Cable with real DUAL-StackMy understanding is that now every device is getting its own public IP and there is no NAT/routing anymore.
But that means that the IPv6 for the devices will change from time to time since you don't use the DHCPv6 Server.
I know the IPv4 addresses of most of my devices and can access them with that address if DNS is not working. How can you remember the long IPv6 addresses and also they change?
Without the DHCPv6 Server there are no static mappings...Does "Register DHCP leases in the DNS Resolver" and "Register DHCP static mappings in the DNS Resolver" work with IPv6 like it does with IPv4?
Then i use All-Inkl.com in DDNS. But it does only sync the IPv4 address?
This is telling me that Windows does not prefer IPv6:
Fix for Windows 10 preferring IPv4 over IPv6
But if i ping Google i get back the IPv6 address... -
@mrglasspoole If you have dual stack than you have both so no need to remember some IPV6 address.

There's a setting Do not allow PD/Address release on the WAN page. Make sure it's selected. You then enter the devices in the DNS resolver, using the consistent addresses. If the prefix still changes, you can use Unique Local Addresses (ULA) to access local devices.

So i do everything i did before? I just work with IPv4 on my LAN?
Is the local communication between the devices then IPv4 or IPv6?What about:
And finally make sure in your LAN / VLAN Firewall Rules you allow IPv6 ICMP. The RA Protocoll uses ICMP to communicate, if this is rejected or by default blocked you won't get a IPv6 on your clients.
I didn't and my clients get IPv6 addresses.
Is it normal that clients get two IPv6 addresses?
The IPv6 address i get from online test sites is different from the "Windows IPv6 address".Anything special i have to look for regarding firewall/security?

@mrglasspoole You can work with the *_net to separate networks from each other. But it is getting messy if you want to create rules for single hosts with IPv6. I wouldn't roll out IPv6 for every interface and even if, you can still access those host via IPv4.

That's nonsense. First off, we shouldn't avoid IPv6, as that's what the world is moving to and the sooner the better. Also, I gave some suggestions that may help @MrGlasspoole with his problem.
