Hey everyone, been a while since I've been on here. I was looking around the internet but couldn't really fins what I was looking for so I figure here is the next best place to ask....

I am currently running pfSense v2.4.4p3 as a VM. Missed the window of upgrading to v2.4.5 although I do have an installation ISO of it. I see that v2.5.0 is out and from what I've read, there are some significant changes. I'm looking to upgrade to v2.5.0, however first I need to create a new VM as the disk space for my current one is almost full (its only like 8GB or something). So I was wondering, is it possible to make a backup of my current config, create a new VM with more disk space, do a clean install of v2.5.0, then restore my config from the backup I made? The packages I have installed, I believe, are from the native pfSense repository (see screenshot below).

Any insight would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I'd go exactly as you described.

        • Crate a new VM and install 2.5.0
        • Take a pfSense Backup from the existing 2.4.4 VM
        • Shut down 2.4.4 and restore the config into 2.5.0

If anything goes wrong you can just power on the 2.4.4 VM again.
