Currently running pfSense 2.4.5-RELEASE-p1 (amd64) on a Netgate SG-2440. I noticed this post recently with someone else having an issue with the same hardware as mine.

I noticed when I ran pkg info from a command prompt that it returned the error Shared object "libarchive.so.7" not found, required by "pkg". I found another post describing a fix to the issue. I was able to resolve that error, but I noticed that, when I go back to the Update section in pfSense and change the branch back to Latest Stable Version (2.5.x), running pkg info gets the same error again in a command prompt.

Keep in mind, I'm doing this on a system running 2.4.5 just fine right now. But I am trying to avoid starting the upgrade process and then running into big problems, having to roll back, etc. Is that error something I should be concerned about before upgrading to 2.5.0?

Any ideas on this? I still have not upgraded to 2.5.

That should be OK, normally when you are a "pre-upgrade" state like that you have a newer version of pkg from the future version, so you would use pkg-static if you invoke it manually that way it doesn't use dynamically linked libraries.

That said, if you've held off this long you may want to hold off for a few more days or so and wait for 2.5.1 which should be coming along in the very near term. No firm ETA but it should be very soon, we're working out a couple final issues and then more testing.

@jimp At this point, I might as well wait for 2.5.1 and probably a couple of weeks after that to see the experience from other users. I'll post back once I've actually attempted to upgrade.
