Avahi HomeKit
-
Hi,
I have multiple VLANs. One of them is for IoT.
On IoT I have devices witch I would like to connect to Apple HomeKit.
One of them is Philips HUE. If I block internet access for this device, HomeKit does not find it anymore.
After some Googling I find out that I need Avahi packet for mDNS.
I did enable it for main network and IoT but at the moment it doesn't seems to work.
My network is: (all VMs)
pfSense only GW and FW, VLANs, Avahi
Win server: DHCP, DNS
Cisco 2960 switch (do I need to set anything on switch? Now all I have is VLANs)
Do I need to tweak anything else that HomeKit devices will see each other? How can I see if mDNS is working?

Forgot to mention:
I can control lights via Philips HUE app on my phone even that phone and Philips HUE are on different VLANs and Philips HUE doesn't have access to internet. So ruteing is working fine between VLANs.
If I want to control it via HomeKit app it does work only if phone is on same VLAN as Philips HUE. So if I am correct I need to enable mDNS between VLANs?
It also work if Philips HUE is on different VLAN then my phone, but in that case I need internet connection for Philips HUE. -

Yes unless you have an AppleTV or HomePod acting as a home hub.
