      As there are some known issues with 2.5
      And obvious reasons for some people to rollback to 2.4.5p1 and restore from backup.
      Can somebody explain to me why 2.4.5 is removed from being able to download it?

      Is there an expectation that one should go get it from an alternate site? or
      Maintain their own backups of previous versions?

      I get if if you are removing old versions from years ago, but the previous release that was
      new just a few months ago and expected to be needed for rollback cases?

      Please explain the mentality associated with this decision and thanks.

      I feel more like I do now.

        Yeah I don’t follow this logic also. Seems a bit stupid to remove it when you know there will be cases where people will need to rollback.

        Anyway here is a link of a repo where the older versions of pfsense can be found. Mind you I did not test every one of them so use it wisely: https://repo.ialab.dsu.edu/pfsense/

          Usually answers to this question are along the lines of "for reasons that have been posted many times before." :) Comments seem to be security related, so the older versions can't be used anymore? Those using CE can keep downloaded copies. Those using FE-now-Plus can request a download from Netgate without needing a support package, but yes, harder to do after an upgrade goes bad.

          But yes if one gets into the habit of back up config, upgrade via GUI, move on with life, and doesn't also download each copy, then it's an issue. One can still install an old version and upgrade forward to "previous stable version" by setting the System/Update version, then install packages.

          Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
          When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

            This is nothing but a huge slap in the face as far as I am concerned.
            At this point it is not a security issue.
            I am not complaining but this is a nudge and a clear to me indication of what caliber of
            people and organization and mentality we (or I) am dealing with.
            I'll make my statement right here and right now on this and I will be done with it.
            There was a time when I purchased all Netgate hardware for my customers and
            at least a year of support from PFSense with each site installation that I did for customers.
            That time has long past, and it is due to reasons like the subject of this post that I have run into
            dealing with both the hardware and "newer" mentality that has progressed with PFSense.
            There was a time when I felt support was awesome and so was the hardware.
            So I have a ad really really good and successful run with PFSense.
            PAID PFSense hardware and support has no longer been an option that I offer for clients
            And their networks.
            I have continued to use and support the free version myself for small family and friend networks and I have recommended free to people I know who ask for advice on free setups.
            I may still do so depending on how 2.5.1 and forward looks.
            However it is very likely I will be looking into alternatives now in the free department as well.

              Not sure what you're complaining about. If you need to revert back to a previous stable version due to issues with a new release, you just need to send an email to Netgate support with reason for reverting back to previous version and they will provide you with a link to down load a previous stable version, such as 2.4.5_p1. You do not need a support contract for them to do that.

              As far as I know they have always done this, atleast with the last two releases due to issues with the newer versions of freeBSD.

              In fact if you check this forum, they have provided numerous links to download the 2.4.5_p1 version.

                @jdeloach IF you can truly do that without a support contract on your own hardware then I have no complaints. And thanks for the tip.
                But I have not seen people recommending this, I have only seen them posting links.
                In fact I have checked this forum.
                My post has nothing to do with anybody providing 3rd party "unsupported use at your own risk links" And that is not a proper solution.
                I keep backups of the install images..

                I feel more like I do now.

                  I do not own any Netgate hardware. I run pfSense on my own hardware and have never had any issues with them providing links to prior stable versions when new versions come out.

                  I learned about it from several of the Netgate employees that regularly post in this forum. Sometimes they'll post the link on here instead of the users waiting for an email from Netgate.
