When doing HA I like to have the console ports cross-connected which has proven very helpful in remotely resolving issues if one of the appliances goes down.

The issue with the SG-5100 is that pfSense does not have a driver for the PL2303GC chip variant used by the hardware.

I found that the driver was accepted into FreeBSD in February 2021 here https://reviews.freebsd.org/D27952 so I'm hopeful that it will make it's way into pfSense at some point.
Is there any chance that Netgate would consider pulling in this patch to the current freebsd 12 based branch?

Man I never thought about cross connecting the console ports tbh. This is genius and now I also want this driver. 😳

Mmm, interesting. I use that all the time, I guess I have an older chip revision in my test box.

Anyway it looks like that has been pulled in already:
          https://github.com/pfsense/FreeBSD-src/commit/2e0dd1574137757c4267c38c11493aab005136e3

Though that is in 12-dev so 21.05.2.6 snapshots. I don't think it will make 21.02.2/2.5.1.

Cool, yeah the chip changed last year sometime I think, not sure exactly when.
I wasn't expecting it to be in 21.02.x but will be hoping for the next major release.

If you can test a 21.05 snapshot it should be there already.
