I've got an XG-7100 that I'm using as part of a pilot test. I'm attempting to upgrade from 21.02.1 to the latest 21.02.2 via the GUI. So far, I've gotten to the "number of packages to be upgraded: 14" part and it has downloaded the "wrapalixresetbutton-0.0.8.txz" and "pfSense-rc-21.02.2.txz" but it has been trying to download "pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG-devel-3.0.0_16.txz" for over an hour.

Has anyone else experienced issues with this? Any ideas on how to fix this and/or avoid it next time?

I seem to vaguely recall running into a similar situation at some point in the past...I don't recall if I just tried again and it worked, or if I restarted the firewall first and then tried again and it worked. If possible I think I'd restart first. If it's just downloading it shouldn't have installed anything yet.

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.

I ended up rebooting the firewall. I also went ahead and installed the new firmware manager package just in case. Then I tried again. It was going well, but now it seems to be frozen on the fetching "pfSense-base-21.02.2.txz". This is getting a little annoying! I seem to remember having issues when first upgrading from 21.02 to 21.02_1 as well (I JUST got these devices a month or so ago...), though I can't remember if it was my XG-7100 1U or the SG-3100. Either way, it doesn't make me feel great about updating these things remotely!

Doing it today may be subject to server overloading as well since they just announced it. (no idea, just brainstorming). In the last decade or so I've not had that problem (aside from the one) on any device we manage but we generally wait a minimum of a couple of weeks after a release.

Is there anything useful in the upgrade log or the system log at the time it stalls?

Are you running an IDS package or pfBlocker or similar that might be blocking it?

So I'm upgrading again today from 21.02 to 21.05 and I'm having this issue again. I'm actually pretty confident this has happened every time I upgrade this box from the GUI. Has there really been no one else having this issue?
