Is the SG3100 been abandoned or...
-
...just in purgatory until if and when a solution is found?
I understand there are ongoing issues with php / 32bit {package} on the sg3100
There was until now no reason for concern for me at least, staying on 2.4.5 until this system can function with the only package installed (pfblockerng-devel).
However I'm required to install the ACME pkg for use with a VPN while still on 2.4.5 p1, where the GUI package manager stalls out indefinitely.
As I understand, the 2.4.5 repo has been depreciated, this leaves very few options.
Thoughts?

I'm using the 21.02p2 with Acme package and pfblockerng-devel..
Make a backup of your configuration, open a ticket in go.netgate.com and ask for the 2.4.5 or 2.4.5p1 firmware (not sure what version you are using now).
In case you face problems, you can go back to 2.4.5..Then, try to update and test for yourself..
According to bmeeks, who is responsible for the snort/suricata port to pfsense, it seems that the problem still exists, so I wouldn't install snort/suricata yet.. -

Each time I assume "this will only take n={time}" even with a new image, backups ect, less than 50% of that time, things happen properly.
Thinking I might ditch the 3100 for a 7100

It's better to wait a good time window for this upgrade, just to be on the safe side..
And most important, don't do it remotely, and bring with you the firmware images.Thinking I might ditch the 3100 for a 7100
Buy two and send one for me, I'll test for you everything you need hehehe :)

Did you change to the 2.4.5 software/repo? See my sig.

No I did not, considering the 2.4.5 repo claims to be depreciated.
Another note, the default repo should represent the branch the system is currently on, not pointing to a repo which holds code to another version. Repositories should never be changed until/ unless the user moves branches.

@mudmanc4 The version 2.4.5 is deprecated, not the repo. It still exists for package installation.
See https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/10464 (Disallow package updates when a system update is available)

There would be no need for a warning or a rule, if the update was offered, yet left the packages to a specific branch, on the current installed branch. Thanks for the info.
