I'm confused about my upgrade options. I bought a Netgate device some number of years ago.

I am apparently eligible to upgrade to 21.02_1, but 2.5.x is not listed in my options. Fine, I'll go with the Plus edition ... but I'd like to have a copy of the image in case of an emergency.

But I can't request an image without a support account?

I seem to be stuck in a kind of catch 22 where I can only upgrade to the plus edition, but can't get a copy for emergency recovery.

      What are my options here?

@rrauenza Contact Netgate Support with your device ID and they will give you a link to download the image.

@kom Can't contact their support without an account. I don't see a way to make an account.

"To open a ticket, go to the Ticket Portal, create an account, then submit your ticket."

There is no create account option. There is a phone number... so I guess I can try that tomorrow.

Those of us who purchased hardware but not a support contract are in a grey area of non support but entitled to the plus releases?

You do not have to actually have an account (nor create one) in order to obtain an image. Put in your email address and the serial number of your appliance. They will respond with a link and instructions very quickly.

I know the page makes it seem like you need an account, but you do not for obtaining images. You would need an account for one-on-one technical support stuff.

I know this thread is very old, but when I go to the TAC support page, it requires me to identify what level of support I want: Lite, Professional, or Enterprise. I have none of these, but I need to upgrade my Netgate 1100 and require an image.

Can I just choose Lite even though I do not have any paid support account? Will they respond?

                Short answer -- "yes".

Longer answer -- your Netgate appliance purchase automatically entitles you to pfSense Plus upgrades and anything to support those (such as sending you the proper image). What you do NOT get with the free TAC Lite support is help configuring your firewall or troubleshooting issues (except for maybe helping isolate a hardware fault for warranty repair). But images and such are free for life.

@rrauenza not sure exactly where you going, but to get an image for a netgate appliance just go here and fill out the info

                  https://www.netgate.com/tac-support-request

Its just a web form to fill out with your info, no account needed or asked for. Normally within a couple of minutes you will have a link to your image with instructions.

Yes, you don't need a support sub to request an image so it doesn't matter what you select there.
