SG-3100 failed to restart after abrupt power failure firewall.segmentation fault (core dump)
-
My less than a month old SG-3100 failed to completely recover after power failed this morning. I ended up having to console connect and manually run the reboot command several times until the script managed to get the firewall pass the segmentation fault error it was stopping on.
Version 21.02.2-RELEASE (arm)
built on Mon Apr 12 07:50:07 EDT 2021
FreeBSD 12.2-STABLE
CPU Type ARM Cortex-A9 r4p1 (ECO: 0x00000000)
Multiprocessing, Thumb2, Security, VMSAv7, Coherent Walk
2 CPUs:
SOC: Marvell 88F6820, TClock 250MHz, Frequency 1600MHz
Crypto: Marvell Cryptographic Engine and Security AcceleratorBandwidthD is installed and running
I will correct the power fail issue and correctly get it on the UPS.
Any patches on the horizon for this issue?

Did you take a picture of the actual error?
Pulling power on any device with a file system is never a great idea, but we've had that happen on various Netgate devices in many cases at various clients over the years. However just because something works 99% of the time doesn't mean it won't ever fail.
There are some general troubleshooting steps here.

@steveits I wish I had taken a photo. The utility company had an outage and I went to check on everything. I thought I had the SG-3100 plugged in on the power protected side of the ups, it was actually plugged in on the surge protected side. Before I could reconnect to the right side the utility restored power. I started testing, my internal devices connected to the LAN port would ping to the Lan interface but no farther. The web console would not load in a browser and no traffic passing via ping beyond the LAN Port.
Once I got the serial console up and running, I had a menu and told it to try restart the webconsole, did not come up so I took the 1st graceful reboot option. The startup script ran through and I could see the interfaces configure, but the console threw the error " firewall.segmentation fault (core dump)" at the firewall section right after the interfaces configured. I was able to Ctrl-C after waiting a couple of minutes. From the shell on the SG-3100, I could ping externally and internally.
I was trying to find the correct ipfw command to list the ruleset. (I am rusty)I ended up running the reboot command twice from the serial console and after the second time, the appliance gracefully continued pass the firewall status entry with no errors. The system has been running as expected for the last 5 hours. I do not see any obvious log errors that I can copy.
Any other suggestions?

They, the creators, even made a movie about it - as this is so important.
But you didn't find it ?
