      Hi,

      I am new to pfSense... im trying to set up Web Filtering using Squid and SquidGuard, but im having some issues on my own, so i was wondering if there is any guide that explains Web filtering and SSL inspection.

      Currently i am stuck where i have generated CA, installed it on test pc but there is error like this: Error and when i try to see if certificate is correct this is what i see: Error 2

      i am using pfsense 2.5.0

      any help is appreciated

        @starles Get the basic squid functionality working before you start worrying about web filtering.

        IMO, using squid in explicit mode with certificates on every client is a pain in the ass. If you just want to do URL filtering then you can either:

        • use squid in transparent mode with SSL filtering enabled and set to Splice All.

        or

        • use squid in explicit mode and you either manually configure your devices to use the proxy or you enable WPAD to allow devices to find the proxy themselves.

          @kom

          i just wish to build simple web filtering based on categories and block some sites manually... tried pfblockerng but couldnt make it work on categories, so im testing squid now..

          i found few guides but, either they were shit or they didnt touch web filtering, so thats why i asked in this forum if anyone had some information on useful guides... or if you have any other method to do web filtering im ready to listen

            @starles Yes I understand what you want and you can do it with squid and squidguard but you need to get squid working first before you can use squidguard on top of it.
