      Looking to replace my edge router 4. Came across the sg-2100. Does anyone know if this will be sufficient for a 1 gig home connection? Ideally I'd also like to have pi-hole and or suricata on there but not much else. No VPNs. There are currently about 10-15 devices running on the network. Most are on wifi and only 3 connected via an ethernet cable. 1-2 users max

        @cinek Hi cinek

        According to the specsheet
        https://www.netgate.com/products/appliances/

        It'll route 1.5gbps but only statefully inspect/firewall at 881mbps. So the only way it would work for a 1gig WAN connection is if you put it into pure routing mode. Essentially disabling the PF firewall and losing all statefull inspection capability.

        For your needs I would suggest custom hardware you build or the sg-3100 appliance.

        Hope that helps.

          @tman904 said in SG-2100 for 1 gig home network?:

          or the sg-3100 appliance

          While we have many SG-3100s in service and they have been fine over the past few years, since @cinek mentioned Suricata note there are problems with PHP on the SG-3100, with 2.5/21.02.

          Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
          When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

            @steveits I use an SG-3100 as well. Although I've held off on upgrading it to pfSense Plus. Regardless it has more than enough horsepower for this setup. Hopefully the bugs that are applicable to it will be solved soon.

              Indeed, with any luck those bugs should be resolved soon.

              And, yes, the SG-2100 will not pass 1Gbps with firewall and NAT. If you're luck enough to have a home connection that is 1Gbps you would want something more powerful.
