I have been having issues with pfSense-plus-SG-3100-recover-21.02.2-RELEASE-armv7 and have been told to roll back to pfSense-netgate-SG-3100-recover-2.4.5-RELEASE-p1-armv6. This has been done..

Now I notice that I can't update or add packages..
These need to be upgraded: ipsec-profile-wizard & aws-wizard
      Trying to add pfBlockerNG-devel 3.0.0_16

All I get with any of it is "Please wait while the update system initializes"

I'm seriously thinking of getting off this hardware. This is my third roll back because of issues.. Does this ever get stable??

        Hi,

It is a choice that no one is forcing you to make, of course it would be nice if you stayed.
It's first step to ask questions, then maybe there will be a solution, it's not LEGO.
(sorry if I'm harsh (but you are too))

How about starting with this? ๐Ÿ˜‰

@daddygo I know it is not a LEGO. Paid support has not helped.. it has been a round robin of answers.. upgrade, downgrade etc. Still don't have a complete working system.

So why won't the system upgrade packages or allow install of packages?

          When I look at "pkg_log_pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG-devel.txt" I get:

@daddygo I now have the packages updating.
Support said to choose Branch: 'Previous stable version (2.4.5 DEPRECATED)' in the System > Update > Update Settings menu.
Then run those commands again and reinstall pfBlockerNG

That has it running.. Now to get some of the things working. One of my devices on the network isn't working. I have not turned the services on to make sure everything is working.. trying to get through one step at a time.

@daddygo The hardware was not communicating.. I'm not sure if it is a DHCP or communication issue. Tracking it down. Then I can start the services on the one box (PC) to check some of the other firewall rules and connections..

                          @daddygo Happy is relative..
System is back up and running.. Now to see if it survives an ISP outage or a power outage or a system restart.. That has been the over all issue. Every time the ISP and/or power outage... it does not recover well..

This past week a whole house standby generator was installed. The UPS I had didn't pass self test (even with fresh batteries, so I am in the process of looking for replacements.

@wc2l 2.4.5 is no longer supported. Even packages are not available. Yup you are forced to use the newer version, but then again they need to do this in preparing for version 14 and above.

@daddygo I'm definitely not a computer scientist or for that matter a college educated or formally trained person. Grew up in the school of hard knocks! Self trained network admin. I had never gotten into firewalls, WAN, routing and etc.

A friend suggested the SG3100 router and I jumped on it. Like the way I learned networking. Sink or swim! He didn't even offer to help set it up initially. Recently I even paid for a years worth of support from Netgate. I have found bugs in NetWare, Windows, Hardware and Software. I usually expect things to work as designed. For me this is a whole new world!

I have found that with Netgate or pfSense, you need to ask the right question or you don't get the right answer. It does not matter if it is forums or via support. There is not a lot of forth coming info. Like my most recent problem that was explained multiple times.. It was a known bug. FYI, I have been experiencing the bug from the very beginning and had asked!

I have a tendency not to have standard settings. I also have odd hardware. I am running a CW skimmer device like the Red Pitaya, Software for the amateur radio ops from around the world use with information that is used by many. None of it rocket science, but can be tough to configure.

I actually don't have much for feelings with computers.. They are just hardware.. Nothing to think about. My son tells me I don't have a heart. After 20+ years in food service, 20+ yrs as a network admin and of course life.. does it matter??

By the way, I originally started with RF technology (me too) and I'm still working with it today, just designing FM radio station transmitter systems,....

@daddygo All good!! I could not respond earlier.. I didn't have enough likes. Plus work etc.! There are two sides to my coin! Heads - I have feelings you know! and Tails - I have not feelings..

I'm here to learn and have learned a lot.. Netgate and pfSense support has been frustrating. I get you need to upgrade, you need to downgrade routine over and over.. I just want stable and working!

Lately this has been more frustrating than my golf game and my handicap has gone up!! That is really frustrating!!

                                        ๐Ÿ˜‰ GOLF

@wc2l "Netgate and pfSense support has been frustrating" ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now you are in a special situation, because 2.4.5-p3 was good for a long time, almost a year...

We're into a big change, 2.5.0 (2.5.1 + Wireguard stuff, etc.) + FreeBSD 12, well let's hope all is well soon.
Here is the forum and we can help, I know you have FE Netgate stuff (SG3100) to do, but here you can get everything that will help - earlier than the Netgate official source.

Cats bury it so they can't see it!

                                          does it matter??

                                          No, by no means. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I respect your perseverance and hope all is well with your stuff.

By the way, I originally started with RF technology (me too) and I'm still working with it today, just designing FM radio station transmitter systems,....
RF (URH-FM), backhaul microwave, AOIP audio, IT Infrastructure.

So I hope you didn't misunderstand me? ๐Ÿ˜‰

                                          My favourite station 106.6MHz - EIRP 15KW:
(at the top you can see 4 pcs. Kathrein Yagi cluster vertical)

Oh nostalgia... this brings me back to an old memory. I remember how it used to be, no contracts and lawyers, we just used a hand shake to make a deal without any problems. I was so naive and believe that those times would always stay the same.
