Serial Terminal emulator FROM pfsense
-
Hello! First timer here :)
I've been trying to find a way to install a terminal emulator client in my pfsense firewall. The idea is to connect the firewall to a cisco switch console and be able to remotely access the console via SSH to the pfsense and opening the serial client from there.
Firewall --> USBtoSerial converter --> Cisco console
Is there any way to install minicom or a similar package in pfsense 2.5? Thanks! -
@jcubillo You should first see if you can get by with the built-in tip or cu commands.
If you really need minicom, it can be manually installed but it has no maintainer so it may have issues that might affect pfSense.
Connect via console, pick option 8 for shell and run:
pkg add http://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:12:amd64/latest/All/lrzsz-0.12.20_4.txz pkg add http://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:12:amd64/latest/All/minicom-2.7.1_2.txz /usr/local/bin/minicom

@kom
Thanks for the info. I was not aware of tip or cu. I'll check them out. Thanks for the warning about installing external packages as well!
