What if I don't want to apply changes...

Lets say, I changed something, but I don't want it applied. Is there a way to "cancel", other then rebooting pfSense? I couldn't find an easy way for that.

Rebooting it will still apply the changes since the config is already written at that point.
The only way is to revert that config change from Diag > Backup/Restore > Config history.
It will still ask you to apply the changes when you go back to firewall rules but when you apply them them nothing will actually change.

@stephenw10 Thank you, didn't know about that at all. But also I never noticed, that stuff I deleted is deleted anyway... I even would swear you where wrong, but after a test, you are right.
If there is something to be wished (for the plus version I guess) then to have a cancel button next to apply. The functionality for that would already exist somewhat?!
Edit: Or asked the other way around: Is there any benefit from not auto-applying everything, because it is already saved anyway.

Sometimes you need to make a number of changes and apply them at once or in the correct order.
Most commonly that happens if you are changing the LAN IP address/subnet. You can change the configured LAN IP without applyign that, then change the DHCP range to match the new subnet. Then apply the LAN change and the dhcp server will start correctly allowing you to reconnect.Steve

I have a suggestion, how this dialog could be more noob-friendly.
The firewall rule configuration has been changed. The changes must be applied now for them to immediately take effect, otherwise they will be applied on next boot. -
In fact they will be applied the next time something triggers a reload. So that could be a pfBlocker update for example. Anything that has to rebuild the firewall ruleset from the config.
So you can't guarantee they will remain until a reboot.Steve
