What could limit our general speed?
-
Hello,
For our company, we have a main gateway running pfSense 2.5.1.
We have two internet connections:
- vsdl (100/20) used as a backup plan
- fiber (200/200)
We've decided to upgrade our fiber to 500/500. When we connect directly in the router of the provider, we get 460/460.
But unfortunately, since this upgrade, we are unable to reach this actual speed on our LAN. The best we have is 240/280 after the pfSense.
What could be the cause of this issue? The hardware is CasWell car-2000.
We've removed the traffic shaper to avoid interfering with speed limit.
The firewall rules are quite simple and we only have a few basic.Thank for your help.

@kevin-lemaire What do the ethernet ports show as on the Status -> Interfaces page reX

@nogbadthebad I should have mentioned that. Sorry.

@kevin-lemaire It could be the Realtek interfaces.
-
@nogbadthebad You think it might be based on the specs of our router?
The interfaces limit could be between 260 and 500?I'm used to 10/100/1000. I'm not used to other limits.

@kevin-lemaire Do a search on the forum for Realtek.

The hardware is CasWell car-2000.
What sort of performance is that capable of? A few months ago, I replaced an old HP desktop computer with the one described in my sig. On my 500/20 plan I was getting a bit above 500 Mb down, but with the Qotom, I got a significant improvement. In between those two, I had to use an old D-Link router and was only able to get around 35 Mb, so hardware matters.

significant improvement
OK. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'll order a new NETGATE 7100 1U BASE to see the difference.

@JKnott @NogBadTheBad Thanks for your help.
Indeed, the hardware was limiting our bandwith.
Exact same configuration with the Netgate 7100 and we reach the 500/500 easily.
