      I have a netgate firewall/router box from 6+? years ago

      small black box, no product name, only ports are labeled

      is it still usable?

      can it be upgraded to latest software?

      <link removed by mod>

      thanks

        What is the model number of the device? There has to be a label on it, bottom, back, etc.

        Your link - some gmail link?? Was remove as suspicious, if you want to post up an image please attach or link to some well known image hosting site, etc.

            @satx2 That's a PC Engines ALIX box. They are EOL and I'm not sure the latest pfSense will install on it as it's likely 32 bit.

              I'd still like to use it as was legit when purchased, good enough for my little network

              Is there a hard reset? i see a couple of small holes but not sure what the do

              I don't have logon credentials

              is there any user guide?

              thanks

                @satx2 If you hook it to a pc with a serial port (rare these days) then you could get to the console and reset it back to factory defaults. I've never used one of those so I can't help you with specifics on how to do things with it.

                  @satx2 The documentation for the APU and VK-T40E is still available online.

                    It's hard to say 100%, since the boards were designed to be physically compatible, but that looks like an ALIX not an APU. The APU enclosure we sold has antenna cut-outs on the back panel.

                    The ALIX is 32bit and only has 256MB RAM (at most) so won't run current pfSense.

                    The hardware reset button should work in the usual way. Hold it down whilst booting. The actual reset happens about half way through the boot so you have to hold it for a long time!

                    See: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/m1n1wall/index.html

                      @stephenw10

                      getting closer, thanks

                      this has a cutout on each side towards the front, cant see what's in there

                      on the back are 3 green LED

                      and a very small hole for reset?.

                        @satx2 I'm not sure what else you're expecting people to help with here. You already know what it is, you know it's not compatible with current pfSense, you know how to get access to it via serial console. Start using a search engine to find your own answers for other questions. Nobody here is an ALIX expert.

                          Those pics don't seem to have uploaded correctly.

                          I think the reset procedure from the APU was the same. It's been a while though!
