SG 6100 is worth to buy?
-
I'm been wondering if this is worth to buy due to advertisement for 2.5 Gbps "LAN" i think if netgate create also a video included a real speed test for me that much better. Also im been thinking this device can able to stand in heat? Because there no fan.
Does anyone already buy this product?

Like a LAN to LAN speed test? Between two 2.5G ports? It will easily pass that for large TCP packets, like iperf.
It was tested in far higher ambient temperatures than you're ever likely to see in a home or office.

Hello stephenw, yeah that's easily pass to iperf what i mean like.
WAN "isp" > LAN > direct to your computer or laptop to speedtest.net "standalone" so user or "consumer" see it directly the result.
In term in heat condition for the device how did netgate test it, is this like a stress test in device? Like there a traffic in and out activity? and is the device is still will work in heat.
I've been still searching if this is good or not, and checking in internet and it's still limited information for sg 6100 due to new device and i been thinking if i go with this device or go to sg 7100 .

That is really just a horrible test not worth anything to be honest.. Its smoke and mirrors sort of test that could be good could be bad.. And prob using 8 different sessions to saturate the internet pipe. If I wanted to test what any hardware could do - the internet wouldn't be in the test plan that is for sure.
If you want to put something through its paces you don't leave all the variables of the internet to mess up your testing..
Sure banging speed test . whatever is fine to validate hey yeah isp isn't Fing you and you can see X speed that they say you could see.. But its not a valid test for hardware can route/firewall/nat at a maximum anything.

Mmm. Also in that sort of test the 2.5G LAN is not going to help unless your WAN is >1Gbps and can actually pass that.

@stephenw10 Funny how the whole system is governed by the smallest bandwidth.
The biggest advantage of future upgradeability. Maybe you don't have a big pipe into/out of your network, but plan on it in the future.
By getting something "now" that allows that means you don't need to buy something new in the future. As for the temperature aspect, it's about airflow. If you don't give a path for the heat to leave the area around the device, you can cause problems. Simple fan nearby to move the air can be a big help.

Exactly. But as you say more ISPs are starting to offer connections in the 1-2Gbps range where 2.5G NICs (at least) are required.
