      Hi All,

How to power off an SG-2100. According to the instructions its to 'Halt' the system. But after doing that the diamond Led light is still flashing and doesn't power off.

      Thanks.

I find it helpful to have the console attached, then you can watch the shutdown messages.
Eventually you get to the "System has been halted" message. At that point, I unplug it from power.

FreeBSD has a "shutdown -p" command that normally powers off the device, but not all devices honor that, so I don't think the SG2100 can be powered down by command.

I could be wrong, if I am someone will correct me.

Thanks for the insight. I feel it would be good to have some sort of indicator (maybe on the LEDs) to signal system shutdown is complete.

Yep. Sometimes it depends on how the leds are actually controlled.
            Lets look at blinking:
you can blink a LED by having software toggle a control line or you can have software write to a hardware controller to toggle a control line.

In the first case as soon as software halts, the blinking stops.
In the second case, as long as power remains, the hardware controller will keep doing it's thing.

I don't know what is inside the SG2100, so it may simply not be possible to set the LEDS to a pattern that can be documented as "System is now halted, safe to power off"
If the ability exists, that would be a really nice enhancement.

I think the 1100 and 3100 are the same way. Maybe due to the ARM platform? Usually I just wait a couple of minutes after Halt. Shutdown shouldn't take long. Once you can't ping it it's basically down, wait a bit after that. Agreed it is a bit confusing if you aren't expecting it. Maybe Netgate should add a "this device won't power off" warning in the GUI for its affected hardware?

Can't turn one off right now but if you watch the lights I want to say you'll see active flashing during shutdown and then it goes to a slow flash? It's been a long time since I've bothered looking.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Last time I power cycled I think this is correct.

Yes, you can't change the power state on ARM like you can on x86 so there is no real shutdown, just CPU halt.

The 2100 and 3100 have a separate LED controller that will continue to pulse the black diamond LED.

                  Steve
