      Good morning everyone.

A couple of years ago I had the chance to work with a SG-2220 appliance, ever since then I noticed it had a SIM slot on the bard. I was wondering if such slot can be recognized as a network interface, in order to be implemented as a WAN interface. Suprisingly, I haven't found any information on that matter, so I would like to know if someone has been able to use this slot properly. I would like to thank you in advance for your time and your kind responses.

It has a mPCIe slot that wired for USB so it can be used with 3G/4G modems. The SIM slot it wired to that to enable that.
If you fit a compatible modem and antennas and put a SIM card in that slot you can use it. There is no modem by default.

@stephenw10 Thank you very much for your answer Steve. It seems that there are not any appliance which has an embedded 3G/LTE modem, that's something to take in account.

Now, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you and the community for any recommendation of 3G/LTE modems, or even any appliance with SIM support. Once again, thank you very much in advance for your responses, much aprreciated.

          Gabriel Lugo.

I have successfully used Sierra modems with pfSense: EM7305 and EM7455. Those are both m.2 devices. I have used them in the 3100, 2100 and 6100.
However 4G modem support in pfSense is limited. You will generally get better throughput using an external, Ethernet connected modem.
