I'm running PFSense 2.5.2 (though same problem at 2.5.0), and having a somewhat mystifying problem with DHCP not serving hosts served via certain network devices. So I have two switches (let's call them Switch1 - Netgear GigE switch and Switch2 - a GigE Ubiquiti switch). Switch2 provides connectivity to 2 of 3 wifi APs, Switch1 provides connectivity to the third. Hosts using wifi get DHCP, no problem, regardless of which switch they are connecting to the PFSense router via. Hosts connected via ethernet to Switch2 get DHCP, no problem. However, when I connect a host to Switch1 directly via ethernet, no love. Even if it's the same device and cable that works on Switch2, and I've tried this with a few devices. The oddest part is that Switch2 IS connected to Switch 1, and that in turn is the single device connected directly to LAN1 on my PFSense. Any ideas on what might be happening here?

@johnpoz All flat. :) VLANs are in the future though!

@kidwell220 When you connect it to the switch do you see it come up with link, do you get lights? What speed does it come up.. While its rare - have seen issues with specific nics and switches, etc.

But if you sniff or watch the log on pfsense - if it doesn't see the discover/request - there is nothing it can do.. So this is first thing to validate - that pfsense is indeed seeing the request/discover - and what does it answer?

Maybe the switch is dying - if your saying works fine with port X and downstream switch 2.. Plug this device into that port.. Does that work?
