Good morning, I'm new to Netgate products. I see that the 2100 was released last September- is it still safe to buy or is a replacement coming out soon? I'm not familiar with your lifecycle.

      Thank you!

@gertjan Thank you for the link, I will keep that for reference. I noticed though that it doesn't list the 2100.

@prtonguy77 They don't preannounce end of life. Given the past decade or so, I would expect 3-5 more years. For example the 3100 I think came out in 2017. Then of course that just means they stop selling it, and you can keep upgrading the pfSense software.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

I can support this statement. I've an SG2440 that had the red led dead issue, got it in under the RMA, so it's been running fixed for a while.

As one can see with the 5100 and 6100, new models may not result in a reduced price on the older model.

Me, if the 2100 fits your needs now and in the near future (say 5yrs out) I'd just get it.

Yes, it's still safe to buy. 😉

We have no plans to stop selling it I'm aware of and even when we do it will still be supported with updates for a long while after that. (years)
