Can't renew/obtain WAN ip address after modem goes down

Here's some more info. I'm using an Arris SB6190 modem with Xfinity. Even if I Release the WAN interface in Status/Interfaces, pfsense fails to obtain an IP address and I'm stuck at 0.0.0.0.
Only when I reboot pfsense does the WAN interface obtain an IP address. What gives?

@alano Me personal have problem with my ISP when I connect pfSense ISP DHCP not offer IP adress. I solve problem on very simple way. I tourn off ISP router (in bridge mode) and reboot pfSense router, now I wait about 5min (ISP remember MAC adress of my old router and not offer IP by DHCP) and power up ISP router and that solved my problem. I got new public IP by ISP DHCP.

I on old router have cloned my MAC address and that is before 7 years is party of security by ISP and if wont to change router I need call by phone to report to connect my new router but when I call last week they remove that security but still not work and I after lot trying solve problem with dump reboot/wait solution. -

If you're not rebooting pfSense, but remove the WAN cable for a moment, an put it back in, does that work ?

@ijurisic I'm trying to avoid rebooting pfsense. Otherwise, if there's a hiccup and I'm not home, I lose access to my network.

@gertjan No it doesn't. I don't understand why pulling the cable or simply bringing the interface down and then up won't obtain an IP address. Only when I reboot pfsense do I get an IP address. I can't believe I'm the only one to have this issue.

I not restart my pfSense, I reset router of internet provider.

Hate to bring up an old post but I've had the same exact problem from 2.5.2 all the way to 2.7.0 now. If the modem goes down, my WAN will not grab an IP when the link comes back up unless I totally reboot pfS. Even if I bounce the WAN interface, it does exactly as explained above (it quickly flashes the public IP, then goes to 0.0.0.0). Same response if I simply unplug the WAN cable and replug.
Could it be a NIC? The NIC is a 4 port HP NC365T server card. My modem is a CM8200A.
Did you ever find a resolution for this?

@BlankSpace same here. this problem is really bad. I have to reboot pfsense whenever my modem resets. i also have xfinity

I'm also having the same problem. I have a UPS, and was away from home while the wife was at home. After a power outage, pfSense boots up faster than the modem, and because the modem isn't ready to give out an IP address, pfSense doesn't immediately get an IP, and never will because it appears it just doesn't retry. I have to reboot pfSense for it to get an IP address.
Wife was not happy having to tell her how to restart pfSense while I was away.
