2.4.4 to 2.5.2 Issues
-
For a few months now I have attempted several pfSense upgrades. There have been several issues that occur. A few of which I'll describe below.
When upgrading from (no lower than) version 2.4.4 to 2.5.2 by following basic GUI upgrade procedure the pfSense will hang while booting up. No amount of BIOS changes allows it to boot up. We now take a backup of the config before every upgrade attempt in the event that we need to reinstall pfSense and import the config. Another issue that arises there is that we have to import specific parts of the config rather than the whole thing because some parts we haven't narrowed down completely seem to break the system. If anyone has experienced any of these issues and can provide solutions or links to threads where these have been previously mentioned, I'd greatly appreciate it.
(We are using Protectli systems and I am aware of their forum, I am actively searching for solutions there as well.)

Where exactly does it appear to hang?
There are a number of points that the boot can actually hang or appear to hang that indicate different issues.
If restoring the config appears to break it it's probably a bad console setting that makes it appear to hang.Steve
