Can pfsense act like a transparent content filter, squid and AV etc?
-
HI all,
I have a router already on the network. I was wondering if I can use pfsense as a transparent firewall doing squid, AV and content filtering. I assume it would be called using a 'bridging mode'.
Cheers

You can do all these things you want. Just install Squidguard and Squid.

Will it work on a bridge within the lan.

sure.

sure.
but remember the pfsense real purpose is for firewalling. why not use freeBSD itself for your need?
It's better if you use something in their real function, isn't it?
hope no one will hurt… -
Transparent squid/AV not supported in bridge mode.

hope no one will hurt…I agree with you totally. Don't run some servers on your firewall. But I am fine with using a simple filter on it. Nobody gets hurt, if the firewall and the filter crashes.

@Monoecus thanks for the agreement…
I just want something to run on their purpose...
There's freeBSD itself that can provide powerful server.
pfSense is for firewall purpose... let it be what it should be... -
pfSense can be a firewall or a dedicated appliance use it how you want.
