      Hi,

updating the ip on our dynamic dns worked very well since a couple of days ago. We rely on the service as our provider is the only one which provides faster internet thatn 6000 DSL, but it is also a crappy one.

So we need to have the dynamic dns service to work.

Since a few days the ip wasn't updated and the logs don't really tell me whats going on.

      The logs (verbose logging on):

      Nov 13 08:57:34 php-fpm 18291 /rc.dyndns.update: phpDynDNS (our.dyn.dns): (Unknown Response)

      Nov 13 08:57:29 php-fpm 18291 /rc.dyndns.update: Dynamic DNS (our.dyn.dns): running get_failover_interface for wan. found em0
      Nov 13 08:57:29 php-fpm 18291 /rc.dyndns.update: Dynamic DNS noip (our.dyn.dns): 4.3.2.1 extracted from local system.
      Nov 13 08:57:28 	php-fpm 	18291 	/rc.dyndns.update: Dynamic DNS: updatedns() starting

I was thinking if we may hit a counter on the noip side as we had plenty of updates lately.

      Their website says:

145 hostname updates in the past 30 days

And these are only the updates from the last 1-2 days.

I also opened a support ticket at noip, but i want to make sure there is nothing wrong on the pfsense side.

Anything what i can do to have a deeper looks at whats going on except for the verbose logs?

      Thanks for your attention.

ok, i got my answer now, we got blocked for too many dns updates. What a pity.

Is there a good way to keep the failover gateway running for longer?

I mean can we set a threshold to tell the gateway to stay on the backup line for at least a amount of time before switching back or something like this?

What happened to us was that the main ISP was losing connection, came back a minute later and lost connection again, so the dynamic dns service switched a lot.

That's a shame in my view.

You can edit the gateway settings in System > Routing > Gateways. Open the advanced options, there you can the settings you're looking for, I think.

yeah it is sad, but i cannot do much about it.

I'm going to skip dynamic dns providers entirely. i set up knotd dns server and use rfc2136 client to keep track of my ip's, seems to work pretty well so far.

btw, we are still offline on our main isp, it is going for a week already. Always the same pattern, slight packet loss, more packet loss, offline...
