Alias + FQDN IP resolution
-
Hi guys I have a question if anyone may help;
I have a pfSense router at home and recently I've set it up with a multi-wan config.
So my default gateway is the new operator, but I still need to use the old operator as gateway for connections from the Apple TV's around the house, and targeting a specific destination which is the target for API auth for the old operator TV app. This app only works if the connection is from the operator it belongs.Ok so all ok with that, I've first made a rule so all traffic from those devices would go through the gateway of the old connection. done with source alias corresponding to the apple tv's and destination inverse match of rfc1918 networks.
So in the meanwhile I ended up looking up what connections exactly were those devices establishing when I was using the app. And I was able to find an IP, and from the IP got to a service. So basically its the following:
tv.myoperator.pt CNAME api-prod.service.net api-prod.service.net CNAME api.sm.service.net api.sm.service.net A A.B.C.D
So I created an alias, selected "Host" and inserted
tv.myoperator.pt
. On the rule on the interface I've put that alias.Doesn't work. Any CNAMES don't work. The name with the A record also didn't work.
When I filled the IP Address directly, worked right away.So my question is... shouldn't FQDN's resolve? Do I have to use the IP in this field??
