I know a similar question was asked here about a year ago, but the answer didn't go much beyond saying that it sets the 802.1p priority.

What I would like to clarify is whether that setting tags traffic across the interface in both directions (on ingress to and egress from the VLAN) or just on ingress from the firewall to the VLAN. I haven't found any documentation or posts that answer this.

The broader issue I am dealing with is a recently implemented VoIP system configured by the provider to use DSCP for priority, and two managed switches that only support 802.1 priority tagging and not DSCP (new switches are not in the budget). I have the phones configured with a VLAN ID and priority (voice) for the outgoing call traffic and want to prioritize the incoming traffic as well. I was looking at using the VLAN priority set option in the floating rule that places incoming traffic from the SIP server into the voice queue (PRIQ traffic shaper), but then remembered the VLAN priority option in VLAN config. I'm trying to figure out the pros/cons to either approach.

      Any input is appreciated. Thanks

        traffic shaper

Not the answer for the VLAN prio, but we use the traffic shaper only without any problem.
VoIP running fine even if i copy files to the other location with full upload..

Thanks for responding. I am using traffic shaper, and it seems to be working fine (although I do have a question about some behavior with the VoIP queues that I am still hoping to get a response to here https://forum.netgate.com/topic/167821/qvoip-activity-on-interface-lan-with-no-voip-traffic).
Let me ask you this - are you using the VLAN priority set option in your traffic shaper rules? I am figuring I will end up using that option to tag the VLAN priority on the incoming SIP traffic, while the phones tag the outgoing traffic.

          thanks again.

No I'm not using VLAN priority set option in our traffic shaper rules.
