      I'm fairly new to using pfSense, and I am a bit concerned about the network traffic graphs. On my old router they never had so many random spikes that pfsense shows, I just want to know these spikes are common.

        Yeah, nothing unusual there. It was probably just averaged more on your previous router.

        You have to look at the scale on those graphs since it's auto-scaling. The VPN interface is hardly moving any traffic so the axis is scaled to 1.5k. A 1.5k 'spike' could be a single DNS query or similar.

          @networkingpeasant you could also just increase the "smoothing"
