unable to upgrade older pfsense

Hello all,
wanted a pfsense update based on a SG4860 version 2.3.4.
Unfortunately the update could not be executed. Error message with the repository.

did the troubleshooting guide and get the following messages after this:

Simple solution is just contact netgate for the install image for your sg4860, take a backup of your config. Clean install and then restore you backup.

This is how I recently upgraded a 3100 from 2.4.4p3 - was seeing same sort of weirdness when trying to update, and it only saw 21.02, etc.
