Chelsio T520 temp
-
I just tried two Chelsio T520 on a PC like system (Dell T140) and the adapters were reporting around 70C temperature. It looked a bit too high to me and I asked what is the max temp. before chip shutdown and Chelsio support quickly responded it is OK up to 125C. Is anyone running them around this ~75C temp, is that normal or should I have a better cooled system to use these adapters ?
I normally use an Intel X710 BM2 which does not report the temperature but looking at the datasheet, it also says the typical temperature is around 80C.

The Chelsio adapters run HOT. They have always done so and it's never been an issue. We fitted an additional fan to all systems that shipped with one but they still ran around that temperature. What you are seeing there is not unusual for that card.

I run a pair of Chelsio T540 cards (4 port brother to the T520). The one in my pfSense box (Supermicro 5018D-F8NT) is running just under 50C (no additional cooling was added to the case) and the one in the other system (smaller mini-ITX case) is running just under 60C. It did run a lot hotter before, but I added an additional fan to the mini-ITX case which brought the temperature down. Never experienced any performance issues even while the card was running hotter. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I think it will be better if I install an additional fan.

Cooler in generally better.
But the temps are not unusual for that card.
