Modem in bridge mode, no access to its wifi

Hi recently added a computer to install pfsense on and connected it to the network but it wasnt until i enabled the modems bridge mode that i finally had internet going to the rest of the computers connected to the switch.

But after activating the bridge mode i cant connect to the modems wifi

My setup:

Modem(from internet provider) -> Pfsense(desktop) -> Dlink switch -> my Laptop

I thankfull for all help i can get

If the Modem is in Bridge mode WiFi is deactivated (depends on Modem) but as the Modem is only a ethernet bridge it cant provide internet access - you have to connect a WLAN Access Point to your switch or pfsense.

I'll second what @perjoh91 says and add that in my opinion it's better in the long run for your network security-wise.

@mer yeah in a security point of view yes ofc thats true buut since i have a alexa and want to connect my phone to the network. this means i have to connect another device and i wanted to minimize the amount of devices connected to the power outlet. but if there isnt any other ways i guess thats how it have to be but never the less i appreciate all the help from everyone in this forum :) thank you

• Buy and use a basic low cost modem (in bridge mode) to convert your ADSL/VDSL to ethernet
• Use your more capable existing modem/router/access port as a router / access port elsewhere on your network

As @fireodo already mentioned, usually ISP modems disable the Wifi in bridge mode. So simply check if your SSID is still available. If it is, there should be a possibility to use it.

Yup, many 'modems' like that no longer route traffic after setting bridge mode because they no longer have a public IP to route it from. So you cannot use the wifi which relies on that.
