Newbie here. Just installed pfsense and will run it between my router and PC for initial setup, get to know how it all works etc. I can ping google.com from the wan (em0) interface but cant access the web UI @ 192.168.1.1 - igbo is assigned as the lan. which of the 4 ports on a NIC is igb0? I've tried all 4 ports but cant access the web GUI. Would like to know the port ordering just for my own sanity.

      Many thanks in advance.

Probable it is the top port, the port away from the motherboard.

Also, if there is a local address given by the ISP router to your WAN interface and it is 192.168.1.x you will not be able to connect. Try changing your LAN to something different like 10.10.220.x.

@andyrh Thanks Ill try that. And yeah my router doesnt use 192.168.1. I'll also swap emo and igb0 to see if the igb0 interface gets a dhscp address/

Well igb0 was the second port from the bottom. Makes absolutely perfect sense.

The actual order depends entirely on how the PCI devices on the card appear on the bus.

One way to be sure is to plug in a cable and then run at the command line ifconfig. You will see which device is active linked.

There is a thread about the order being unexpected. But that was a different card. Maybe it is an Intel thing or they can't count...
