I've just switched domain registrars and nameservers from GoDaddy to Hover, based in part on the listing of Hover in the "Service Type" drop down list in the Dynamic DNS Service of pfSense. I created an A record at Hover and tried to set up DDNS with them. It didn't work. I just finished a chat with Hover. They say that they don't support DDNS. What am I missing?

      Simple.
You switched registrars, but forgot the add essential criteria to the 'need to have' list.
      Like :

Does this registrar supports DDNS ?
Does the supported DDNS also have pfSense support ?
                 Ok, new registrars is Ok
            Else
                 Bail out.
      Else
            Bail out

You do this using their support/documentation/FAQs/manuals.

Or : Plan Z : don't use any external DDNS any more : be your own ! You need a VPS, install an OS, install 'bind' - use this VPS as your domain name zone master - pick another one as the salve(there are many free choices) - do some learning. Set things up. Done.

        Hello,

I also have a domain name hosted with hover that I would like to setup my pfsense instance to manage a DNS record with my ISP's dynamically assigned IP address.

I found this thread on the top hit on google. I am very confused by the reply from Gerjan, why does the option exist in the drop down of the Dynamic DNS section of pfsense if it dosent work?

I found this PR on github where it looks like the functionality was added into pfsense
        https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense/pull/3549

        Anyone know anything about this?

          Did you saw :

As I understand it 'They' is Hover !
So setting up a functionality that isn't supported by the registrar shouldn't need to confuse you.

          On the other hand :
          I also saw this :
          d75c7bf4-8430-4054-a7b2-04d1b239a0c5-image.png

so yeah, I also tend to believe that the Hover mentioned in the pull down list is the Hover, your registrar. Which could mean : they say they don't support it - support you (like : helping people using is ) but they do have the functionality. It could be like using Microsoft Windows : they do not support you, Microsoft will probably tell you to contact your PC builder.

Did you saw / read the Hover documentation ?

In my chat with Hover support, they said that they don't support DDNS, meaning that they don't offer the functionality. That was almost two years ago, though.

Yeah : some reading from here hover dyndns make me think they don't support "DynDNS" anymore ( ? ), as they added 2FA( ?? )

I can't be sure, of course, I'm not a client of Hover.
