I use my pfSense as a OpenVPN appliance. It is a VM in a RFC-1918 vlan. I only use the WAN interface, have an address statically assigned, and have an upstream gateway set. It is the default gateway. I notice that when I try and manage the device (https, ssh, icmp) from a host in the same vlan as the WAN interface I am getting extremely sluggish responsiveness from the GUI and intermittent packet loss with ICMP. However if I manage the device from a host outside of that vlan, but in the same datacenter, I have no issues. In the first case this should all be layer 2 connectivity. Would there be any reason the pfSense would not respond well to this type of management connection?

FYI, I do not have any issue managing other devices within this same network. I also understand the concept of transit vlans but unfortunately that is currently not the topology. Nonetheless I would think it should still work al L2.

      Thanks
